Saturday

A Saturday painting.
En Plein Air.

I kept diving through my studio
for mediums to fill the
light and space.

I couldn't leave well enough alone.
I had to layer, cover, smear, scrape and repeat.

Then again maybe it really wasn't
well enough
after-all.

I used an old door
to support my assembled glued strips of
printmaking paper.

Gel medium, tissue paper, netting and plaster
were used to create textures on the paper.

Ink, oil stick, charcoal,
Stabilo pencil and conte crayon
were layered and layered and layered.

And it now hangs
next to my
bathroom door.

Next to King Jack
under the bell jar.

In my ears...

New Life & Coleslaw

I gave new life
to an existing
large-scale installation.

It seemed like the right thing to do
for I had shoved it into a
humiliating position
to store it safely until further notice.

Much like how life can
mosey along just fine
then abruptly shift direction.
Sure you adapt but
before you know it...
you've allowed some parts of yourself to be shoved into
an introverted space which renders you
stagnant.

The piece was created to hang
in the middle of a gallery space,
viewable from all sides.

It has since been used as a studio curtain,
and then...
I shoved it into a ball in a shed full of spiders
(sad but true).

I've cut it from it's original
translucent covering
and stripped it of its rusted wire
and it now lives
as a wall hanging
as if it were a painting...

transformed from something it once was.

And then I made coleslaw...

while listening to this...
(several times... because I evidently like it THAT much)...

Perspective: PNCA 511 Handstand Tour Summer 2014

My alma mater & current employer,
 Pacific Northwest College of Art
(aka PNCA),
is in the process of creating an
enriching new space
that caps off the
North Park Blocks
in Portland.

(above: the entry to the main corridor)

I took a hard hat tour,
tucked the front of my shirt in,
and...

looked at things with a
different perspective
(thanks to the camera phone
photography skills
of coworker MB).

I want more.

(above: ?? an office I can't remember)

perhaps this explains the want...

Thesis: Adapting to the Elements & Stirring the Soul

The sun showed up....

and nested...

inside, outside...

and mingled for a while.

It has charmed me with it's alteration
of texture and translucency...

in need of interaction.
